    Shopify CSV round-trip guide

    Use this file for price, Compare At Price, title, and product tag edits. Blueline preserves Vendor, SKU, and the first option pair but does not edit them. Keep your original Shopify export.

    Read this before overwriting products

    Blueline edits only Title, Variant Price, Variant Compare At Price, and product Tags. It preserves Vendor, Variant SKU, Option1 Name, and Option1 Value without editing them. It writes only those fields plus Handle and supported image columns, and drops every other source column. Do not use its export to overwrite a catalog that depends on descriptions, product type, publishing status, extra options, inventory, barcodes, shipping or tax settings, or metafields. Test in a duplicate or development store first.

    1. Export and keep a rollback file

    1. In Shopify admin, export your products and keep that untouched CSV somewhere safe.
    2. Load a copy into Blueline, make only the supported edits, review the pre-flight report, then download the edited CSV.
    3. Blueline keeps one output row for each parsed variant or image-only row. It preserves Image Src, Image Position, Image Alt Text, and Variant Image; it does not preserve unknown columns.

    2. Import in Shopify

    1. In Shopify admin, go to Products and choose Import.
    2. Choose the edited CSV, review Shopify's import preview or validation messages, then start the import.
    3. Only select Shopify's overwrite option for products with matching handles after the five-sample check below. Shopify uses the Handle to match existing products.

    Handles and variant rows

    Repeated handles are normal when the rows are variants of the same product. Reused or duplicate handles for two different products are not normal and can make Shopify combine data under one product. Blueline does not detect or repair them. Fix those in the source export before importing.

    Keep every variant row you mean to update. Blueline only models the first option pair, so products that rely on Option2 or Option3 are outside its safe round-trip. Do not rely on leaving a variant row out to delete it. Use Shopify's product editor or an approved deletion workflow for that.

    Tags are product-level

    Shopify applies tags to the product, not individual variants. Blueline evaluates a tag-rule condition across the product: when any variant under a handle matches, it applies the add or removal to every variant row for that handle. The preview, pre-flight report, and exported CSV use that same result.

    Images and image URLs

    Shopify product CSVs can use public, direct image URLs in Image Src, with Image Position and Image Alt Text for image details. Those URLs must remain reachable by Shopify during import. Blueline retains image-only rows and these supported image columns without turning them into purchasable variants. It cannot upload local image files or preserve unknown image-related columns.

    3. Verify five samples after import

    Choose five changed variants that cover your edit, not the first five rows. Include a product with multiple variants, a tagged product, a Compare At Price change, and the highest and lowest edited prices. In Shopify, confirm the handle, option value, SKU, price, Compare At Price when used, and tags against Blueline's pre-flight report.

    Header row required. Needs at least Title and Price columns; Handle, Vendor, SKU, option, Compare At Price and Tags columns are picked up automatically. BOM, CRLF, semicolon-delimited files and currency symbols are handled.
