Help & FAQ

Answers about editing Shopify product CSVs with Docket. Can't find yours? Email support@docket.page.

What does Docket actually change?

Four things: Title, Variant Price, Variant Compare At Price, and product Tags. It writes those plus Handle and the supported image columns.

It does not touch vendor, SKU, options, inventory, descriptions, product type, publishing status, barcodes, shipping, tax, or metafields — and it drops columns it does not understand. That is why the exported file is for applying an edit, not for restoring a catalog.

Does my catalog get uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing, rule evaluation, preview and export all run in your browser. Your CSV is never sent to a server, and there is no account to create. Named catalogs stay in this browser until you clear them; the "Delete my browser data" button in the footer removes what Docket saved locally.

How do I get my products out of Shopify as a CSV?

Shopify admin → Products → Export. Choose the products you want and the plain CSV format. Shopify prepares the file and emails it to you. Keep that original file — Docket's export is a subset of it, not a replacement for it.

How do I put the edited file back?

Shopify admin → Products → Import, and upload the file Docket produced. Before you do, open Docket's pre-flight report and run the five-sample check it describes: pick five changed variants that cover the edit — including a multi-variant product, a tagged product, a Compare At Price change, and your highest and lowest edited prices — and confirm each one in Shopify afterwards.

Test in a duplicate or development store first if the catalog matters.

Can I undo an import?

Not from Docket, and not from Shopify either — a CSV import is applied, not staged. That is exactly why Docket makes you look at every changed row before it will export anything, and why we tell you to keep the original export. Inside Docket itself, rules are non-destructive: turn one off and the previous result comes back exactly.

Why did some of my rules get rejected?

A rule is rejected rather than half-applied when it would produce something Shopify cannot safely take — most often a tag rule on rows with no Handle, since Shopify tags are a property of the product, not the variant. The pre-flight report names each rejected rule and the reason. Fix the source export and re-load it.

What happens with products that have more than one option?

Docket models the first option pair only. Products relying on Option 2 or Option 3 are outside its safe round-trip — edit those in Shopify's own editor. Repeated handles across variant rows of the same product are normal; genuinely duplicated handles for two different products are not, and Docket does not detect or repair them.

How big a catalog can it handle?

Tens of thousands of variants. The engine is tested against a generated 10,000-variant file. Everything runs locally, so speed depends on your machine rather than on a server queue.

What does it cost?

Nothing. The CSV tool is free and complete: no account, no card, no checkout, and no variant limit.

Still stuck? support@docket.page. Include your Shopify store name, roughly how many variants are in the file, and what you expected to happen. Please don't send us your catalog — we don't need it, and we'd rather not have it.
